We downloaded the AswClear executable file to our desktop, per Alwil's advice this makes it easy to click and run in Safe Mode. We think this is a wise precaution against accidentally uninstalling your antivirus protection. The Alwil Software Uninstall Utility is a standalone executable that runs when clicked, but only in Safe Mode. If you're not sure about Safe Mode, the Windows Help file explains it all, and Alwil's simple instructions make this tool easy enough for even novices to run without fear. Some folks will stop reading right there, but not to worry-it's not called Safe Mode for nothing. Avast! developer Alwil has provided a solution in the form of a free uninstaller, the Alwil Software Uninstall Utility, aka AswClear, which works in Safe Mode. While we've installed and uninstalled Avast! many times through the built-in Add/Remove Programs utility on the Control Panel with no problems, we sympathize with those who do experience issues. Antivirus tools are among the most reluctant to be removed, and Avast! is no exception. But like certain horror movie stalwarts, some software just doesn't want to say goodbye. I would also would like it not to prompt the users if they are sure they want to delete all the avast files.Uninstallation comes to every app, sooner or later. If I run it in regular windows what ricks do I assume? Preferably I would like to know how to use the aswclear tool with switches so it knows to look for version 7 or 8 and not to reboot after it runs. What is the reason for only running it in safe mode. One, it is only recommended that you use it when you are in safe mode and also I can not find switches on how to automate it. Also I found the aswclear tool, however I have 2 problems with it. (to resetup) When I use both the /uninstall /silent switch nothing happens. When I enter the command prompt and browse to the setup file for version 8 I use the /uninstall switch and the installation wizard show up. However the problem is I do not have a version 7 setup file and they don't seem to work with the version 8 setup file. I found the command line switches for version 7 posted on this site. I have searched google high and low and I have found a few things, but all of them have been unsuccessful. All of our avast clients are installed in the default location. I am already sending out emails for users to disable the avast self defernse module. I need a way to uninstall avast free version 7 and 8, preferably silently, however if there are a few prompts that would be ok too.
